ABOUT ADAM
Adam Stern has worked in film and television for over two decades. He founded Artifex Studios in 1997 with the intent of setting up a creative space where a group of artists could produce quality work. Artifex created visual effects for over eighty feature film and television projects, and won or received nominations for numerous visual effects awards, including an Emmy nomination for its work on FOX’s Almost Human.
Adam has since turned his attention to his own projects. The Adept, his first film as writer/director, screened at festivals around the world including Raindance, Sci-Fi London, The Seattle Short Film Festival, FilmQuest, First Glance Philadelphia and the Miami International Sci-Fi Festival. The film has received several awards and nominations, including nominations for Best Sci-Fi Short at FilmQuest and Honourable Mention at the Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival.
FTL, Adam’s second film, is the recipient of multiple awards, including Best Drama at the Toronto Shorts International Film Festival, Best Action Short at the 2017 Berlin Sci-fi Filmfest, Best Sci-Fi Film at the 2017 Roswell Sci-Fi Film festival, Best Sci-Fi Film at the 2017 Sci-On! Film Festival, and Best Sci-Fi Film at the 2017 Top Shorts Online Film Festival. Additionally, FTL was nominated for Best International Short Film at the 5th Annual Philip K Dick Science Fiction Film Festival, Best Sci-Fi Short at FilmQuest, and Best Sci-Fi Short at the Sydney Indie Film Festival. FTL has also been nominated for a number of additional awards for VFX, editing, and performances.
Adam’s feature film LEVELS is currently in post-production. A Screencraft Sci-Fi Finalist, LEVELS has been supported in development by The Harold Greenberg Fund | Bell Media and Creative BC. The project is also the recipient of an Epic MegaGrant for its planned use of Unreal Engine and Virtual Production technologies.
Adam is a member of the Directors Guild of Canada, the Television Academy, the Visual Effects Society and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
